Since the local anesthesia used in the tumescent technique lasts longer, the procedure is less painful and more pleasant than liposuction techniques that use general anesthesia or IV sedation. However this technique does have it share of possible risks and complications. The fluid overloading involved in the tumescent technique is relatively safe. However there have been reports of congestive heart failure as well as toxic effects from the local anesthesia.
